The fоllоwing cоmes from Section "XII. STA2122 Spring 2024 Course Policies: Grаding" Instructor feedbаck & grаding. You can access your scores at any time using "Grades" in Canvas. Grades for quizzes should be produced immediately. Grades will be made available for discussions and other assignments roughly 5-to-10 days after due date. Reports will come with rubrics and feedback. Challenging grades. If you feel that one of your assignments has been graded erroneously, you have the right to challenge that grade. After careful review of the rubric, you must type a paper, titled “Grade Discrepancy on (Assignment Name) and I will review your request. You must address the following: (1) Assignment name and date; (2) a list of your specific problems that need to be addressed, including relevant scoring, rubric criteria, and rubric comments; (3) argumentation of why grade should be changed, including citations and support. Grading errors must be submitted via email (not through Canvas) within one week after the grade is posted. Attendance, participation, and late work. Below are my expectations regarding attendance and the timely submission of work. I must make every attempt to be flexible, but to also treat all students fairly; therefore, I maintain very clear boundaries around make-up work and academic performance. Below are the ways I work with students:   Dropped assignments. Statistics doesn’t come easy to all of us; therefore, two of your lowest practice exercise and quiz scores will be automatically dropped from your final grade. Grace period. We all have busy lives, therefore, some assignments can be turned in late. Here they are: Practice exercises, quizzes, and DARs are due on Wednesdays and Fridays; however, they may be submitted any time through 11:59:00 pm on Sunday following their due date with no penalty and no questions asked for timely grading and feedback. First day attendance, Discussions, DAR revisions, and Exams have no grace period and must be turned in by 11:59:00pm on the date listed. Outlier Tokens. To lower the stakes a bit, all students can make use of 2 (two) “Outlier Tokens.” These virtual tokens are intended to help you complete assignments or account for other mishaps due to personal issues like minor illnesses and to maintain work/life balance. There is a process set in place for requesting Outlier Tokens. For more information, please review the Outlier Token Request Form. Token option: Request Timeframe: - Workweek Extension on 1 Quiz or DAR - 11:59pm on the Monday after assignment due date. - One (1) additional attempt on a quiz - any time through Week 14 of the semester. - 3 points added to Final Exam score - Remaining tokens automatically applied during final grading. Minor unplanned absences. If you miss, or anticipate missing, due dates because of personal reasons, (e.g., internet is out, work issues, a wedding, doctor’s appointment, a brief illness, life disruption, a breakup, a party, travel, or relocation) it is your responsibility to work ahead of schedule or request the application of an Outlier Token. Planned absences. If you plan on missing a due date (excluding the grace period) because of scheduled events like military service, religious holidays, or university-sponsored activities, you must send me applicable documentation, a list of dates, affected assignments, and anticipated make-up dates, during the first week the term. (A minimum of 1 week before the affected date for emergent events.) Major unplanned absences. If you plan on missing a due date (excluding the grace period) because of serious emergent events, such as you/your partner’s/your child’s illness, hospitalization, injury, deaths in the family, severe weather, or other crises, it is your responsibility to notify me within one week afterward to make arrangements. In all cases related to injury or illness, a physician’s note excusing you from attending school during assignment due dates -- not for just an appointment -- will be required. It is inhumane to request proof of death, so notification will suffice in these cases. I can also work with university-level representatives from the VA, Victim’s Services, etc. After circumstances are reviewed, I will ask for you to compose a list of dates, affected assignments, and anticipated make-up dates. Overall, I really need you to be as communicative as possible.  IMPORTANT: Technological disruptions are not acceptable excuses for late or incomplete work. The grace period is designed to help students work out technical issues. Documents uploaded to Canvas will be considered FINAL. Blank, corrupted, or erroneous uploads will be graded. Please double-check ALL uploaded files. Incompletes. Incomplete grades are only given under extenuating circumstances and at my discretion. Students requesting an incomplete must have 80% of the course completed, and a passing grade, at the time of the request due before the last week of class.
