Cоurse Nоrms аnd Expectаtiоns: Meаningful and constructive dialogue is encouraged in this course and requires a willingness to listen, a tolerance for different points of view, and mutual respect from all participants. Be prepared by reading materials and completing assignments. Attendance at live sessions is a necessary part of this course; therefore, make sure to attend live sessions from beginning to end. The following are norms and expectations for attendance during live sessions: Students should have their cameras on at all times. You should behave in live sessions as you would in face-to-face sessions, that includes dressing appropriately, avoiding engaging in other tasks (i.e., text messaging, internet browsing), and displaying professional behavior. When logging for live sessions, you must be ready to attend class. I will not allow students to stay on Zoom sessions if they are not ready to fully participate in the class, that includes if students are driving or engaging in other tasks. The reason for that is because it can be distracting to me and other students, impede your ability to contribute during discussions and class activities, and for safety reasons. If I realize that you are not ready to attend class, I might disconnect you from the call and admit you again in the room whenever you are ready. Make sure to have an environment that is appropriate for learning and participating in the class. I understand that being at home might present some distractors out of your control (e.g., children enter the room, dogs barking to noises, etc). That is understandable! But, work with the variables that are under your control, that includes securing an appropriate studying space. I know it is very easy to get distracted in a virtual environment. Please, make sure to minimize opportunities for distraction including phones, other browsers, or devices. If I noticed that you are engaging in other unrelated tasks, that includes texting, watching TV, or talking to someone in the room, I will notify you and if the behavior is not addressed, I might discontinue from the Zoom session.
