I. Intrоductiоn     Thesis Stаtement: Almоnd strives to persuаde the аudience by discussing his experiences as a married man, reminiscing about the times when he accumulated particular items, and by reasoning with both himself as well as his wife.   II.  Ethos       a. The author uses ethos in the first paragraph by using his 3 prior years of marriage to establish a sense of credibility with the reader         b. "Or the broken wristwatch I possibly shoplifted from a Graceland souvenir store?" (Almond 59) This example shows the author is human and has made mistakes just like everyone else        c.  "...men dream of converting that tangle of defunct laptop adapters and answering machines and phone cords into a super robot capable of taking out the garbage" (Almond 59) this is a direct appeal to the intended male audience   III.  Pathos       a. the author discusses shoes that he used to "climb the Masada and wade into the Dead Sea" and how he never forgave his wife for throwing them out because they were more than just a pair of shoes, rather a part of him. these shoes represent memories that are very nostalgic and close to the author's heart being that they remind him of the times spent in those very shoes.       b. "I say, 'you don't understand. This album got me through 1997!'" This shows the album is very important and was a key part of the authors early life.         IV.  Logos       a. "Now that we have a digital library, we should sell/donate/recycle the CDs" (Almond 59)        b. In the article on page 58 Almond also touches on the idea that men don't keep journals but instead hang onto items that hold profound memories.        V. Conclusion       Reworded Thesis: In the article, Almond intends to influence the audience by touching on his experience with marriage, inducing nostalgic feelings of all the AMJ he has collected, and by moments of reason between him and his wife.  Pope.PDF
