Cоurse Cоntrаct Technоlogy Recommendаtions for Science аnd Math Division Online and Remote Instruction Courses Access to technology resources is required for all Online and Remote Instruction courses. The college has computing facilities to support students when the college is open, but for online course students we strongly recommend that students have their own technology resources to maximize access to course material at any given time for reviewing course materials and communications. Online courses in the Science and Math Division use CANVAS, the college-wide Learning Management System, and many courses use online homework systems, such as myLab, WileyPlus, WebAssign,etc. Online Testing is monitored through online programs such as, Respondus Lockdown Browser with Monitor, ProctorU, or other testing software technologies that require Webcam Video Monitoring. If your current equipment is insufficient, the following checklist is a helpful guide when planning to purchase or upgrade personal technology resources to ensure compatibility with the various software packages used in online courses: Hardware Requirements Checklist A student should have a computer with the following: 2 GHz processor or faster High-speed Internet connection of 3 Mb/s or better 4 GB RAM or greater 64 GB system storage or larger Built-in or external speakers. Hard-wired or Bluetooth speakers are acceptable. Built-In Webcam and Microphone. Fully Supported Operating System(s) Windows 10 (except Windows 10 S) or MacOS 10.13 or higher External Webcam Checklist, if adding to an existing setup Technical Specifications Sensor: CMOS Minimum Resolution: 1280 X 720 Viewing Angle: 70 degrees or higher Interface: USB 2.0 minimum Focus: Automatic or Manual Microphone: Integrated microphone Video Format: Color The following CANNOT be used for coursework this semester: The following are NOT fully supported and should not be purchased for coursework: CHROMEBOOKS cannot be used with Respondus Lockdown Browser + Monitor IPads cannot be used with Respondus Lockdown Browser + Monitor Android based tablets (Nexus, Tab, Note, etc.), Windows 10 S or Surface RT, smartphones, Linux, and virtual machines are not allowed during online proctoring for objective assessments. Unsupported Operating System(s) Chrome OS Linux Unix Course Schedule I understand that all online assignments are due by 11:59 PM on the specific date indicated and no extensions will be granted.  Online Homework Policy (WebAssign) All online homework must be completed by the date indicated on the course schedule. Online homework WILL NOT be reopened after the due date. Alternative Video Workspace Setups While taking all exams in the class my workspace must be shown. Videos on this can be found under the Important Class Information and Links Module - Proctoring Information (Respondus or Honorlock). Exam Policy There will be NO make-up exams. If you miss an exam, it will automatically become the exam that is dropped at the end of the semester. Once an exam is opened you will have 90 minutes to complete it. Exams must be completed in one sitting. Exams will not be reopened. You cannot open an exam, look at the questions, close it and then reopen it. If you do this the exam will not be reopened and will be used as your drop exam. Exams will be taken online using Respondus Lockdown. Browser + WebCam; refer to the requirements for using Respondus Lockdown Browser by clicking on the Respondus Lockdown Browser Instructions on the homepage in Canvas. Final Exam Policy In order to successfully pass the course you must take the final exam.  The final exam will be completed using Respondus Lockdown Browser + WebCam. The final exam will be taken from exams 1-6. The final exam will only be available during the two-hour window on the scheduled dates listed in the course schedule. “Physical Science Department Policy for Online Courses” To protect the “Academic Integrity” of the Physical Science Courses the following guidelines for testing have been adopted by the Physical Science Department:   FINAL EXAMS for CHEM, GEOL, SCIE, and PHYS web and remote based courses MUST be taken using Respondus LockDown Browser and Web Monitor at the times and locations designated by the instructor. Makeup EXAMS are NOT permitted.  Instructors MAY require other quizzes, tests, and/or exams to be taken using Respondus LockDown Browser and/or Web Monitoring. If so, you will be required to have any of the recommended computing resources for online instruction and operating systems. Google Chromebooks, Ipads and tablets such as Nexus, Tab, Note, etc., Windows 10 S or Surface RT, smartphones, Linux, and virtual machines are not allowed during online proctoring for objective assignments. Recommended Hardware Requirements: 2 GHz processor or faster, High-speed Internet connection of 3 Mb/s or better, 4 GB RAM or greater, 64 GB system storage or larger, Built-In or External Webcam and Microphone, Built-In or External Speakers Operating System(s): Windows 10 Preferred or MacOS 10.13 or higher The following are NOT supported and should not be purchased for use: Under extreme circumstances, the instructor MAY allow the use of a proctor on a very limited basis, and with the rules established by the instructor.  “Physical Science Department Policy for Online Student-Instructor Communication” All course communication must be done through CANVAS or via your Delgado e-mail address. If you don’t know your Delgado e-mail address, you can find directions on the Delgado website under the e-mail heading. Instructor may not respond to alternative e-mail addresses. You should check your e-mail and CANVAS at least three (3) times per day. Instructors will, in most cases, respond to e-mail within 24 hours and at most 48 hours, except on weekends and during holidays.  Make sure all e-mail communications are clear and respectful. Any threatening or harassing e-mail will be dealt with in accordance with the Student Judicial Code. “The roles of the Instructor and Student” The instructor basically serves as a Course Manager/Facilitator and does the following: Adds and provides course content and resource links at his or her discretion. Sets the assignment and exam dates. Grades assignments and exams. Verifies the on-time completion of assignments. Answers e-mail questions during the designated office hours established Monday through Friday (Monday through Thursday during summer). The instructor is NOT available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. E-mails will usually NOT be responded to on Weekends and Holidays and after 3:00 p.m. on Weekdays. The student carries the primary responsibility for instruction. It is your duty complete exams and assignments on time. It is your duty to communicate with your instructor. It is your duty to follow the policies and procedures set forth in this course syllabus. I have read and I understand all points discussed in the Course Syllabus, Course Schedule, Respondus Lockdown Browser +Monitor Instructions and in this Course Contract. I agree to abide by the policy set forth in the above-mentioned documents.
