Provide an example of a real belief/opinion you hold that you take to be a genuinely settled issue (i.e. you can’t imagine changing your stance). Suppose you have the opportunity to engage in conversation with someone who holds the opposing stance with equal conviction. In light of our readings in Module 4 thus far, answer the following questions in some detail (a few sentences each):1—What would a “good faith” argument look like in this case? 2—What, if anything, would it take to convince you to change your belief?3—How would you attempt to persuade the other person to adopt your stance, and what kinds of evidence/arguments would you present? 4—If the argument ends in a stalemate (no clear winner, nobody persuaded to adopt the view of the other person), would you feel obligated to remain strong in your conviction (steadfastness), or would you feel obligated to lower the confidence of your belief (conciliation)?
