Which artist painted this work?© Oberlin College, Ohio. The features and bodies of both people are angular and heavily outlined. Their skin has a noticeably yellowish cast, and their features are stylized. The man takes up the left half of the painting. Shown from the chest up, he wears a navy-blue uniform with a gold-colored button near the high neck. Under black brows, his slitted eyes are filled in with midnight blue. A cigarette hangs from between bright red lips. He holds up both hands, the stump of his right arm a red disk. The fingers of the other blend together and then come to a point, or extend off the right edge of the canvas. We see the nude woman from her knees up behind him, to our right. She looks to our left so we see her in profile. The background is red to our left, black behind the woman, and green to our right.

Identify this structure including the name, location, culture, and function. The entire structure appears to be made of horizontal bands that stretch across all the parts, like the striations of rocks. A central tower rises at the center. Two wider, slightly shorter towers are to each side, and several others nestle around this trio. We look at the temple across a green lawn with manicured bushes.

What is this object and what is its function and significance? In the view of the palette on our left, a man stands and holds up a rod-like mace in one hand as he grips the hair of a kneeling man with the other. The standing man wears a tall, narrow crown with a rounded tip and has a short, straight beard. He wears a short skirt, and muscles are visible on his limbs. Under his feet, two nude men bend or crouch down. The second image, to our right, is carved with three horizontal bands. In the top register, a man, double the size of other people in this area, walks in a procession behind several people who hold standards. Ten headless bodies are stacked in two vertical columns to our right. Each decapitated person’s head is tucked between their feet. The register below is the tallest on this side. It shows two creatures with leopards’ bodies and faces but with long, snaking necks that interlock around a circular depression in the stone. Two men hold onto the creature’s necks with ropes to either side. In the bottom register, a man is trampled beneath a bull’s hooves. Throughout the people are shown so that their faces are in profile but their bodies seem to face us.
