Read through the following Computer/Work Space-related Requirements: I will ensure that I have reliable internet connectivity and my computer is fully charged/plugged into a charging source before starting the exam. My computer has been placed on a firm surface (desk or table). I have cleared the desk/table surface of all items other than the keyboard and/or mouse. I understand that auxiliary computers/tablets/monitors, and/or cell phones are not permitted in the testing area. I will completely scan my desk area and testing environment when prompted by Honorlock. I will NOT place the computer on my lap, a bed, or other surface that may cause movement during the exam. My camera and microphone will remain ON at all times. I will sit upright in a well-lit room devoid of back lighting (avoiding windows and lights behind me). I will be facing-forward and directly at my computer camera throughout the exam, with my complete face visible. I will turn off all other devices (e.g. tablets, phones, second computers) that may be in the room and place them outside of my reach. If using a built-in webcam, I will avoid readjusting the tilt of the screen after the webcam setup is complete. My camera lens is free of debris/greasy residue. I understand that partial and/or obstructed viewing is PROHIBITED (not allowed).

A group of high school students came up with an experimental design to measure which type of paper towel is the strongest. They purchased a store brand paper towel and a name brand paper towel. They labeled the store brand as “Paper Towel A”, and the name brand as “Paper Towel B”. They also purchased distilled water to use in their experiment. While in the lab, they placed 1000 mL of distilled water in two graduated cylinders, and labeled them “Cylinder A” and “Cylinder B” to coincide with the paper towel labels. One sheet of each type of towel was placed over separate empty 500 mL beakers and secured with Staples #19 rubber bands. They slowly added single drops of water from cylinder A onto paper towel A until the paper towel was torn. They then placed the remaining water left in the dropper back into the prospective cylinder A and measured the amount of water still remaining in the cylinder. The same was done with paper towel B and cylinder B. Their conclusion was that the store brand paper towel is stronger, because cylinder A contained the most amount of water. Which of the following is the DEPENDENT variable in this experiment?
