Discuss 5 violin concertos written after 1950. Write about the Composers, their nationalities, musical background, composition techniques etc.  (approx. 30 min)

Outline a four- year course of study that includes required scales, method books, solos and excerpts (if appropriate) for the college undergraduate music education major.  Construct two (2) 45 minutes recital programs including one ensemble work on each program that prominently features the euphonium.

(third hour) Identify at least three major compositional trends in the twentieth century and describe specific piano pieces in the repertoire that reflect those trends.  You need not limit yourself to composers or trends of one continent and may draw from the entire century provided you can describe specific works that reflect the trends.    Or     2. Describe the influence(s) of jazz on piano music in the twentieth century.  Refer to elements of harmony, rhythm and orchestration and any other elements you can describe and feel free to direct the reader to examples of solo, chamber music and concerti as you see fit.   If you have knowledge of examples of jazz musicians drawing inspiration from classical composers and compositions, feel free to share, but focus principally on the influence of jazz on “classical composers and pieces.” You may also identify composers who seem to inhabit both the jazz and classical orbits simultaneously.
