Banksy is a street artist whose real name and identity are unknown. His primary medium is graffiti, and his works have appeared in cities around the world. He is known for his dark humor, social commentary, and distinctive stencil style. Fig. 1 Sale ends (Version) 2 by Banksy Purpose: This exam provides the opportunity to demonstrate the two methods of development that we have learned so far this semester: description and exemplification. Knowledge Needed: How to engage in the writing process How to write a thesis that responds to a prompt How to craft an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion How to describe an image using concrete, sensory language How to generate effective and well-developed examples How to reflect on social issues What you do not need to concern yourself with today: MLA formatting or citation Tasks: Respond to the following prompt with an original 500 – 750 word essay that incorporates descriptive language and well-developed examples: What message do you think Banksy is conveying in Sale Ends (Fig. 1)? Do you agree or disagree with his message? If you agree with his message, how do you see it exemplified in the world today? If you disagree with his message, how do you see it contradicted in the world today? Take time to brainstorm on the work of art, how it can be described, what it means, and possible examples. Examples can come from your personal life experiences and your knowledge of current events/popular culture. Examples can also be hypothetical. In other words, you can use your imagination to create examples. Write a five paragraph essay, with an introduction that introduces the thesis, two to four body paragraphs that support the thesis, and a conclusion paragraph that brings all of your ideas together and creates a mic-drop moment. Revise and proofread. Suggested outline: Introduction Description of Sale EndsThesis First example and discussion of how example relates to the thesis Second example and discussion of how example relates to the thesis Third example and discussion of how example relates to the thesis Conclusion   Banksy.
