This is the Course Contract for H362.  This course is demand…

This is the Course Contract for H362.  This course is demanding in time and requires effort in reading, analyzing written material, and in completing assignments.  You will be challenged in this course and your instructors have every confidence that you can be successful in passing the course.  By taking this course, you are agreeing to the following: You agree: 1.  To treat all students, instructors, and other persons you interact with in the course with respect.  It is acceptable (and in many cases necessary!) to challenge ideas with logic, citation to facts, and courteous debate.  It is not acceptable to attack a person for their ideas.  Whether one likes an idea or not, it is not only morally better to counter with a better idea rather than attack the person, but also more effective at promoting your idea. 2.  To carefully read the syllabus, review the modules and assignments in canvas as to due dates, review the overall course structure in canvas, and review the home page. 3.  To read all assignment instructions before starting the assignment, including the rubric.  Rubrics are available for all major assignments.  You will be graded based upon the rubric, but instructors always reserve the right to deviate as necessary to award exceptional work or to reduce points for poor effort.   4.  To check any video assignments for quality before posting.  You must check the video and audio quality of your final product.  The sound should not be too soft, and the video needs to work with the audio.  If you are unsure if your machine produced an acceptable video quality, have a classmate check it out before posting.  Cell phone videos do not always work well with video posting to canvas.  If you are having issues with your video, you agree to check with IT Support.  Instructors want to help you, but they are not technical support.  Go to the professionals — IT support is there to help you.  5.  To turn in all assignments on time.  Any extension of time without a penalty must be agreed to by the instructor before the deadline and the request must be due to a true emergency or unforeseen circumstance (i.e., serious family or personal health issue, serious accident, etc.).  Extra time will not be given due to personal work schedules or for circumstances that do not seriously impact a student’s ability to complete work.  See the Syllabus for the late assignment policy.  Late quizzes will be unlocked at student request sent via Canvas email and will receive a late penalty per the policy. 6.  To not wait until just before a course deadline to submit an assignment.  Videos take time to upload, and quizzes cannot be completed in 10 minutes.  Any quiz or assignment that is late is just that — late.  A successful professional must be organized and understand that deadlines matter to both employers, and in health care, to patients. 7.  To proofread and edit all written assignments prior to submission.  If you cannot understand what you wrote, how can your instructor?  If you need help, go to the university writing lab.  Becoming a good writer does not mean you must write volumes, but it does mean that your writing must be clear, use good grammar and punctuation, and show that thought went into what was written. 8.  To work with group teammates on any group assignment with courtesy for their time, and by putting out effort to contribute to the group project in a meaningful and positive way. 9.  To reach out to your instructor by email or by attending office hours with questions about a reading or an assignment well before the due date.  Your instructor is there to help you, and wants to help you, but asking for last minute help will not be effective. 10.  To cite all material that is quoted from an outside source (including AI) in accordance with the University’s plagiarism policy.  Use APA citation formatting. 11.  To use AI programs only to learn about course material or to help improve your writing.  AI programs should never be used to answer examination or discussion questions by copying and pasting, or by manually copying the AI generated material.  AI generated material should never be used as the sole basis for a research paper.  AI can be useful and will continue to evolve in quality and application; however, part of earning a degree and of higher-level education is to expand your thinking and writing skills.  While AI may be helpful to improve those skills, it is not a substitute for doing the work. 12.  To expect great things from yourself.  Yes, this course is challenging and is likely different in content than you are used to, but your instructors have confidence that you can achieve a passing grade.  You should have confidence in yourself as well.  Most achievement comes from effort, not genius, so put out good effort and you will be successful. Please type in “I agree” once you have read this contract.
