Case Study RM is a 68-year-old Black male who was referred to the nurse practitioner for evaluation of high blood pressure (BP) noted on an initial screening. On physical exam, his BP readings are 160/96 mm Hg and 152/98 mm Hg. He was diagnosed with type II diabetes 18 years ago, has a history of gout, denies tobacco use and drinks 1 glass of wine occasionally.
