Drug users disengage in activities that involve crime. They also avoid negative peer groups who encourage them to commit crime or support drug activity. Kids who join gangs are less likely to abuse substances and commit crime. Marijuana, alcohol, tobacco and even over the counter medicine has been labeled “gateway drugs” and falsely claimed to be easy routes into substance exposure and abuse. Drug use does not lead to poor decisions, bad or criminal activity. Illicit drug use has not been linked to any negative consequences.
