There is a right to bail in America.

According to the Washington Post data, while police shot and killed more White individuals in total number, police shot and killed African-American individuals at rate nearly 2 times more frequently than Whites.

One of the unique differences of the Sheriff’s Department from other law enforcement is that they handle and operate the county jail.

The Pennsylvania model of corrections stressed the idea of isolating prisoners in single cells where all of their activities were done without communication with others so that they could serve penance.  

Explain the 4 main type of correctional supervision (jail, prison, probation, and parole) that we use in our criminal justice system. How are each different from each other? And how many people are under EACH form of correctional supervision, currently? Explain how these numbers have changed over time… And explain the policies that explain the changes in these numbers. Additionally, articulate which of the 5 main goals of sentencing (deterrence, incapacitation, retribution, rehabilitation, and restoration) you think is currently guiding our use of each type of correctional supervision? Please use specific examples/data/research from this class that you learned about over the semester to explain whether or not each type of correctional supervision is reaching the goal that you selected. Again, make sure that you specify exactly what class content (ex. from the Podcast, outside resources, the PowerPoint, the textbook, etc.) you are using for each so that it is evident that it comes from the class only.
