Duke Leto Atreides is a widely respected leader of House Atreides, known for his honor and integrity. After the Atreides family is granted control of the planet Arrakis, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen seeks to undermine Leto’s reputation to weaken his rule. In a secret meeting with representatives of the Spacing Guild, the Baron states: “Duke Leto is a traitor to the Imperium—he conspires with Fremen rebels to overthrow the Emperor himself. I have it on good authority that he sells spice directly to smugglers, avoiding the Emperor’s tariffs.
