A randomized controlled trial is designed to compare troglitazone to placebo as adjunct therapy to insulin in patients with type 1 diabetes. The trial had a primary outcome is A1c and patients have a goal of an A1c of 7% or less. The investigators determined they needed to enroll 327 participants to achieve 80% power to detect a 0.5% decrease in A1c with a one-sided alpha level of 0.05. What is the null hypothesis for this trial?

What kind of article does the abstract below describe? Objective: To assess the association between adherence levels and severe asthma exacerbation. Methods: A search performed in the following databases: PubMed, CENTRAL, EMBASE, and ClinicalTrials.gov. Randomized-controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies that investigated the impact of adherence to controller medications on severe asthma exacerbation were included. Data extraction was undertaken by 2 reviewers. Results: 8 studies were included in quantitative synthesis. The odds of exacerbation among the patients with 80% or more adherence were lowered by 47% (OR 0.53 [95% CI 0.42-0.66], P < 0.001) compared with less than 80%. Conclusion: A reduction in the odds of exacerbation was associated with patients achieving 80% or more adherence.
