Savannah is about to graduate from UF and has just signed her first contract for employment with a private company, X Corp. Savannah realizes that there is a clause in her contract, drafted by X CORP, that prohibits her from speaking about the trade secrets that X CORP uses. Savannah believes that this clause violates rights under the First Amendment. Therefore, Savannah tells some of her friends at school about the company and the wording of the contract; however, she does not say anything else about X CORP, its customers, or what it does. Savannah does not know that her friend Rosalind’s father is the head of X CORP. Rosalind tells her father about what Savannah has said, and he immediately fires Savannah. Would Savannah have a case against X CORP under the rights granted in the First Amendment?

In exchange for $400,000, Ophelia offers to recreate a scene…

In exchange for $400,000, Ophelia offers to recreate a scene from the musical, “Annie,” in business tycoon Elbert’s backyard for Elbert’s New Year’s Eve party. Elbert is a huge Annie fan, and Ophelia threw a “super-dooper sweetener” into the offer, which stated that Ophelia would get at least ten of the cast members from the movie “Annie” to make an appearance and sing at least three Annie tunes of the party guests’ choosing. Elbert is thrilled; so, that very day, in late October – 65 days before the party – Elbert accepts Ophelia’s offer. The day of the party, on New Year’s Eve, Ophelia calls Elbert and informs him that no one from the “Annie” cast will be making an appearance, but that the rest of the party would come off “without a hitch.” Elbert is very upset. He not only wants his down payment to Ophelia of $100,000 to be returned to him, but also wants Ophelia to reimburse Elbert’s incidental costs to date related to putting on the party (some prepaid costs not covered in the Ophelia-Elbert contract that concern catering and crowd control). Elbert claims that he has serious legal grounds to sue Ophelia. Does he?

Professor Emmers is looking to form a team of crime fighting superheroes and superheroines. He looks around his local campus for students with extraordinary superpowers. Roberta, a student who seems quite impressive, asks to join the team. Professor Emmers says “yes” and lets Roberta know that she will have to pay rent for the nice apartment, which Professor Emmers will lease to her at a very low rate of $30 per month (far below the market rate); and all of the rent is to be paid at the end of the lease. Roberta agrees. After a few months, Professor Emmers learns that Roberta had recently turned 17. For insurance reasons, Professor Emmers removes Roberta from the team and demands that she pay back the $25 for the cost of the uniform (which she can keep) and $90 for the housing she received. Upset, Professor Emmers also demands $100 in punitive damages because Roberta had not volunteered the information that she, a college junior, was, when she entered her agreement with Professor Emmers, only 16 years old. How much will Professor Emmers recover from Roberta?

Peyton recently lost his pet dog Boomer while out of town for the weekend. He quickly prints out lost pet flyers with an image of Boomer and puts them on all public bulletin boards around UF’s campus. Each flyer had a posted reward of $50 for finding Boomer and bringing the dog back to the address on the flyer. Karl was walking down midtown when he came across Boomer lying outside of the Wawa on University Avenue. Karl promptly picks up Boomer and takes him to Peyton’s apartment to receive his award. After handing Boomer to Peyton, Karl asks for his $50 reward for finding the dog and bringing him to the correct address. Peyton refuses to give him his money because he states that a contract had not been created. In this scenario, was a contract created? If so, what kind of offer was made by Peyton?
