What is the strange feature of Satan’s face?  

Near the bottom of Hell in “Canto XXXII,” it is a realm of a frozen lake that is known as, “Cocytus.”  Here, sinners are alive but frozen in place.

In “Canto XXXIII,” Hypocrites trample over a crucified sinner; this sinner is Caiphus, who served as high priest under Pontius Pilate, the governor who ordered the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.  

When Dante and Virgil leave Hell behind, what do they see that gives them hope?

In “Canto XXXI,” one of those being punished is a giant who participated in the building of the Tower of Babel; this was recorded in the Bible.  This tower of antiquity was being build to reach heaven, and as a punishment God caused all those involved to speak different languages so that they could not understand each other and finish the tower.  

In “Canto XXI,” there is a pit of boiling tar; after Virgil makes some negotiations, Dante is allowed to continue on his way.
