A 28-yeаr-оld previоusly heаlthy wоmаn presents to your clinic with right calf pain for 2 days.  She reports the pain started gradually and has worsened. She currently takes oral contraceptive pills. She denies trauma. Vital signs:  Temp 98.6 F, pulse 105 bpm, RR 22 breaths/minute, BP 110/60 mmHg O2 Sat 92% PE findings: Right calf is red and swollen with pitting edema. Right calf measurement is 36 cm circumference, left calf measurement is 32 cm circumference. The right leg is tender to touch especially on foot dorsiflexion. Dorsalis pedis pulses are strong and equal in both lower extremities.  Which factor in this patient’s history increases her risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE)?
