Questions

Chооse ONE оf the following questions, аnd type аn essаy of at least 800 words in the test blank.  It is important that you use wording from the question in your thesis and list the points in order. You must also mention the wording from the question in the topic sentences.  Use very specific details from memory. When you finish. Be sure to submit the whole exam.   In “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman or in “First Confession” by Frank O’Connor, argue whether the protagonist is a dynamic or a static character?  Be sure to come up with character traits to organize by to show the change, or if there is no change, you must come up with moments which could have provided an impetus for a change (which doesn’t happen), and you will have to prove that the trait at the end is the same as the one BEFORE these moments in the plot. Use specific details to prove these points.    OR Choose a theme in EITHER Ernest J. Gaines’ “The Sky Is Gray” or in Frank O’Connor’s “First Confession” and discuss this theme.  You will need to carefully organize by points that illustrate this theme and then use specific details to prove these points. Evaluation Criteria   Do the contents of the exam respond to the question asked?   Are the contents specific and extensive enough to be convincing-i.e. to convince me that the writer knows the term and has actually read and understood the literature?  Also, detail will need to be specific enough to prove your point.   Is the essay organized clearly enough so that it makes sense and can be read quickly? Do the points (topic sentences) make sense (particularly in relation to the question asked)?   Does it have an introduction that makes contact with the question asked?  Does the introduction clarify the essay’s direction?   Are there any serious grammar or spelling problems that interfere with reading and reflect poorly on the writer?   Are there any confusing or garbled sentences that disrupt the reading of the essay?    Does the manner in which the assignment is addressed indicate that the student is using the essay exam strategies that we learned in class?
