Yоu аre gоing tо be looking up TWO news stories. Your first one will come from а Left wing site (using our "News Sources" list), аnd the second one will come from a Right wing site (again, using our "News Sources" list) needs to provide a counterpoint to your Left wing story. In order to look up your stories, put your search term into Google, then type in 'site:' followed by the news source you intend to search (no space after the colon). For example, a search for a story on Husker football on a centrist site could be: "husker football site:apnews.com". Your news stories need to deal with the lingering effect of Apartheid in South Africa OR the issues surrounding farm attacks there. It can be about the commonness of farm attacks (or lack of how common they are), the racial makeup of people carrying out the attacks or of those being attacked (i.e., are the disproportionately white, black, coloured, or Asian?), the racialization of politics in the country (e.g., the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging Neo-Nazi party, the Freedom Front Plus party that represents white Afrikaner interests, the African People's Convention that represents black nationalist interests, etc.), the continuing echoes of apartheid, such as racial makeup of property owners, neighborhoods, the military, and/or police forces, or the reasons and controversies around bringing Afrikaners into the U.S as refugees in 2025. Your Left wing source will likely portray the Black and Coloured populations as victims and the White populations as aggressors. Your Right wing source will be more likely be the inverse of this (portraying the White people as victims and the Black and Coloured as aggressors). Whatever your two stories say, it is important that they have two different points of view or explanations of the same issue. I suggest that after reading your Left wing site, think about a part of it that makes a claim that might sound hard to believe or maybe just incomplete in its reporting then research that specific point when looking up your Right wing news story. As with earlier research, your news stories must bring something new to the table; they cannot just be a repeat of our videos or readings. They can't be more than a year old. In order to make sure of this, you can limit your search in Google by clicking on the "Tools" button, click on where it says "any time," and set it for "past year." They also cannot be opinion, editorial, or op-ed pieces. In order to check for this, press Ctrl+F when you're on the news page and search for each word individually (opinion, editorial, and op-ed).
