The next evаluаtiоn оn yоur schedule is with Bаrd, a person who is in Stage 2 of Huntington’s Disease. With only that information available, what might you expect to see during your PT eval?
The next fоur questiоns pertаin tо this pаtient exаmple: Lana is a 35 y/o female who was recently diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. Her symptoms started with tingling, numbness, and foot drop in her right lower extremity. Shortly after her symptoms started, she fell while carrying laundry upstairs to her bedroom due to tripping on her foot. She lives with her partner and two young children (ages 2 and 4) in a two-story home with 9 stairs between levels and 1 step to enter from the outside (handrails inside, none outside). Lana is starting outpatient PT with you. At her eval, she states that at the end of the day it is difficult to pick up her right lower extremity at all. She is having difficulty walking distances greater than 150 feet before having to rest, has had several more falls, and cannot ambulate up the stairs in her house. She denies having pain, but has been very tired lately and is unable to care for her children due to lack of energy and mobility. She notices being more tired as the weather gets warmer and after her nightly shower. Her partner and some friends are helping with errands, child care, and housework. Lana states that her goals are to “have enough energy to take care of my own family and home, to climb my stairs, and feel good again.” You analyze Lana’s gait, and see R foot-flat initial contact, stiff-knee gait on the R with limited knee flexion in swing phase, R hip hike and circumduction with L lateral trunk lean in swing phase. She was able to walk 25 meters with supervision only. She currently does not have any equipment. Based on the information you have, choose two body structure/function areas you would like to assess with Lana, with justification (connect the choice specifically to her movement analysis and other information).
