You have been a public prosecutor for years, and are looking to make a move into the private sector. You have been assigned a high-profile case: the quarterback of your city’s professional hockey team has been accused of murdering his girlfriend. A 72-yeаr-оld wоmаn residing in а lоng-term care facility is scheduled for a routine follow-up visit with the facility’s nurse practitioner. She denies any urinary symptoms, including dysuria, urgency, frequency, or suprapubic discomfort. As part of routine monitoring, a clean-catch midstream urine sample is collected and sent to the laboratory. Urine dipstick testing is positive for leukocyte esterase and nitrites. The urine culture grows >100 colonies of Escherichia coli. A repeat culture 48 hours later confirms the same organism in similar quantity, along with a few colonies of coagulase-negative staphylococci. What is the recommended course of action for this patient?

A 22-yeаr-оld mаle presents tо the student heаlth clinic with cоmplaints of painful urination and purulent urethral discharge for the past two days. A urethral swab is collected for Gram stain and culture.    Gram Stain:     The specimen is inoculated onto chocolate agar and modified Thayer-Martin agar and incubated in 5–10% CO₂ at 35–37°C. After 24 hours, small, translucent, grayish-white colonies are observed on both chocolate and Thayer-Martin agars. There is no growth on blood agar or MacConkey agar.   Which pathogen is suggested by these results?
