An аttending mаle physiciаn walked intо an examinatiоn rоom to take care of a female patient complaining of abdominal pain. The physician noted that the patient's partner was seated beside her. The physician asked all the pertinent questions regarding the abdominal pain and noticed that the patient seemed to be anxious, and at times, she was hesitant to answer some questions. The physician asked a nurse to assist the patient in changing into a hospital gown. The partner told the physician that he did not want her to be seen naked by a male doctor and then asked the physician to “just prescribe her painkillers”. The physician requests that a female physician examine the patient, and the partner continues to resist. The male physician left the examination room, stating that he would pick up a couple of painkiller samples for the patient, but instead, he called the police, who removed the partner from the room, and they stayed with him in a separate room. The female physician spoke and examined the patient, and observed multiple bruises that suggested domestic abuse. After speaking with the patient, the police arrested her partner for domestic abuse.  Analyze this case study using the principles of the Ethics of Care. You asked all the pertinent questions regarding the abdominal pain and notice that the patient seems to be anxious and at times she is hesitant to answer some questions. You ask a nurse to help the patient to change into a hospital gown. The partner told you that he did not wanted her to be seen naked by another men. He asks you to prescribe pain killers. You then ask for a female doctor to examine the patient, and the partner still resists.  You walk out of the examination room saying that you will pick up a couple of pain killer samples.  Instead, you call the police, who remove the partner from the room. After examining the patient, it's discovered that she has been battered. The police press charges for domestic abuse. What principle from the ethics of care did you use to realize that the patient was being abused?
