Prоblem 1. In business аnd educаtiоnаl settings, cоmputer presentations use liquid crystal display projectors. The most common failure mode of these projectors is the failure of the lamp and many projector manufacturers include the expected lamp life in their technical specification documents. A manufacturer claims that users can expect 400 hours of projection time for each lamp used under normal operating conditions. To test this claim, a public university installed and replaced identical lamps on 3 projectors supplied by this manufacturer. A university staff recorded these lamps’ working hours. Projector 1 387, 182, 245, 380+ (“+” means right censoring) Projector 2 418, 387, 584, 360+ Projector 3 245, 360   Failure Time # of Parts at Risk # of Failures R(t) a. Use the Kaplan-Meier method to compute the reliability. Fill in all missing values in the table above. (10 points) b. Assume failure times follow an exponential distribution. Estimate the failure rate value and calculate the probability of a lamp having a life longer than 400. (10 points) c. Taking a closer look at this dataset, it seems that the lamps on Projector 2 have consistently longer lives than the lamps of the other two projectors. As a reliability engineer, what is your suggestion to make a further investigation of this suspicion? Please utilize the discussions in the Ford Case Study to suggest some reliability analysis and reliability comparison tools. (10 points)
