Yоu recently аcquired а 10,000-аcre prоperty in New Zealand that has been cleared and farmed fоr kiwi fruit. You must make a decision on how you will now use the property. After some research, you conclude that you could continue to put land in Kiwi Fruit production, sheep farming, or timber production. It is your desire to maximize the net present value of profits from the land.  To achieve these goals, there are many things to consider. An acre of kiwi fruit yields 150 bushels per year while sheep farming generates 1000 lbs of meat per acre per year. Due to the local market conditions (people love to eat mutton), you have to produce at least 15000 lbs of meat per year. In addition, there is a quota on kiwi fruit production that prohibits the production of more than 10,000 bushels per year. The New Zealand government has authorized the national bank to provide you with a loan of $600,000. It costs $50/acre to manage the kiwi fruit; $75 per acre to manage sheep; and $10 per acre to manage your Radiata Pine trees. Finally, the amount of sheep farming has to be limited because of the erosion it produces when the sheep sever the grass closely to the ground. New Zealanders may love eating mutton, but can’t stand seeing their beautiful mountainsides erode in front of their eyes. Therefore the acreage allocated to sheep farming has to be ½ of the acreage dedicated to timber production. In addition, since you’re interested in profits, you have estimated that growing kiwi fruit will generate an net present value of $450 per acre, sheep farming will generate $600 per acre and your trees $525/acre.a). Identify and clearly define the decision variables that you would use to set this problem up to be solved using linear programming. (4 points)b). Write out the objective function for this problem. (4 points)c). Write all relevant constraints. (4 points)

Sven аnd Ollie, Swedish investоrs, think highly оf yоu аs their consultаnt and they have requested your services.  They want you to fly to Auckland on the North Island of New Zealand and travel to their Kiagora forest near the city of Rotorua to develop a management schedule for the their timberland.  The development of their schedule is dependent on the goal of maximizing the net present value of all activities across the forest.  Their planning horizon is 40 years.  The decision they want you to make is to determine the number of acres of each stand type (i) to be treated with prescription (j).  The initial forest structure is as follows:   Stand Type Age Acres Stand Z 10 1000 Stand M 30 500 Stand G 40 2000 Stand Z is composed of Radiata pine, Stand M has Douglas Fir (yes, they do plant it in New Zealand), and Stand G contains Eucalyptus.  You have the following yield information for all species types:   Radiata Pine Douglas Fir Eucalyptus Year cu ft/ac Year cu ft/ac Year cu ft/ac 10 500 10 350 10 200 20 1100 20 800 20 500 30 1900 30 1500 30 800 40 2500 40 2100 40 1050 50 3000 50 2600 50 1200 60 3200 60 2900 60 1300 70 3300 70 3100 70 1375 All prescriptions occur at the beginning of the decade.  E refers to clear-cutting  all existing timber and replanting immediately.  R refers to clear-cutting all regenerated timber and replanting immediately. Stand Z   Decade       Prescription 1 2 3 4 One   E     Two   E   R Stand M   Decade       Prescription 1 2 3 4 One E       Two E   R   Stand G   Decade       Prescription 1 2 3 4 One   E   R Two E   R   Present Net Values: After much hard work, you have calculated the present net value of each of the prescriptions (using a 6% discount rate and New Zealand dollars (assume 1 NZ$ = 1 US$)): Stand Z Prescription NPV One $375/ac Two $561/ac Stand M Prescription NPV One $1228/ac Two $1475/ac Stand G Prescription NPV One $167/ac Two $288/ac       Given the Question information provided by your proctor, a). Completely define the decision variables. (3 points)b). Mathematically state the goal of the decision maker? (3 points)c). What are the available area constraints? Please write them out. (3 points)d). If the forest manager were interested in tallying the number of acres cut each period, then how would they get this information using linear programming? Please write out all relevant equations. (3 points)e). If the forest manager were interested in tallying the amount of volume cut each period, then how would they get this information using linear programming? Please write out all relevant equations. (3 points)f). If V1, V2…V4 were the volume accounting variables, then write constraints that allowed volume to vary (up and down) by 35% each period. For your information, V1 represents the volume cut in the first period. (3 points)
