Cаse 2 - Alex Snyder Instructiоns: Pleаse put yоurself in the shоes of Jаime, the boss, and think about how you’d handle this situation. Please incorporate class content in answering the questions at the end of the case. Alex Snyder is a relatively new employee having joined your company just two months ago. Alex graduated from University of Florida with a B.A. in business management last May. You are Alex’s manager, and this morning you overheard a hallway conversation in which Alex told one of his teammates (who is also a friend of his from UF, and one of your other direct reports): “I hate my boss Jaime. I can’t seem to do anything right. Jaime corrects all my work, including my grammar. I have not received any positive feedback about what I do. It is so frustrating, as I have never worked this hard and feel my work is pretty good. I don’t know what to do.” You are taken aback by this conversation. Admittedly, you do not know Alex well because you were on vacation for most of Alex’s first month on the job, keeping in touch via email to manage a crash project the entire team was working on. In fact, you have been so busy with this project that you have not met with Alex one-on-one yet (though you interviewed him for the job a few months ago). You decide to check with the rest of the team by stopping by their offices, and find out that Alex is well-regarded by everyone. They said that Alex was always prepared in meetings and very thorough in his work. You also learned that Alex is a perfectionist and always worked hard to exceed everyone’s expectations. You feel that you are a demanding but fair boss and you want your team to excel. The project deadline is tight, and you are under constant pressure from the CEO. You realize that maybe you were too focused on the project and neglected the softer side of leadership. You realize that you need to have a conversation with Alex. You schedule a meeting with Alex for later in the week. As you know, a good leader prepares for hard conversations ahead of time. Therefore, using the space provided below, please discuss how you would handle this situation (in this scenario, you are Jaime). Please discuss whether/how you would show vulnerability, take responsibility, and provide feedback on the appropriateness of Alex’s complaining to coworkers about you.
