Her musical talent was clear from an early age: she began playing piano at the age of three and started on the violin when she was five. At the age of eight she started intensive violin study at the National Conservatoire of Music in Beijing. After completing her studies in Beijing, she returned to the U.K. and entered the Royal College of Music in London.  Vannessa-Mae’s first professional performance was in 1988, at a musical festival in Germany. From this point onwards, her success in the world of classical music continued to grow and grow. As well as releasing a number of best-selling classical albums, Vanessa also recorded pop music, including a collaboration with Janet Jackson. One of the highlights of her career so far was an amazing performance of part of the “Summer” section of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons at the 2002 Winter Paralympics in Salt Lake City. By 2006, Vanessa-Mae had sold over 10 million records and had become, according to the Sunday Times newspaper, the wealthiest entertainer under the age of 30, with a fortune of around $60 million.
