Overview: Write а 5 Pаrаgraph Essay Chооse оne of major characters (Mama/Lena, Walter, Beneatha, or Ruth) and analyze how the actor portrays that character's identity in the theatrical production of A Raisin in the Sun, directed by Bill Duke (located in Module 14).  Analyze the delivery of lines, body language, costuming, tone, mood, and/or the character’s overall development throughout the theatrical version. You will cite lines from the play in the textbook as well as analyze the actor's on-stage performance. You are to write a 5 paragraph essay. Break Down of Requirements: 1. Introduction Paragraph: write an introduction paragraph that introduces the play, theatrical production, the actor's name/character you are analyzing, and ending the paragraph with a strong thesis statement:  2. Thesis Statement: write a strong thesis statement, at the end of the introduction paragraph,  that makes a claim about how the actor in the theatrical version portrays the character’s identity and development/growth throughout the play. The claim should focus on how the actor theatrically (body language, tone of voice, costuming, etc.) portrays the character’s development. 3. Three Body Paragraphs: write at least 3 body paragraphs to prove your thesis statement. Choose three specific moments (one from the beginning, middle, and end of the play) to focus your analysis on and support your thesis. Each body paragraph should include: Direct quote from the character in the textbook, including an in-text citation citing act, scene, and page number. Example (2. 1. 1547).  A description and analysis of how the actor delivers those lines theatrically (aka body language, tone, costuming, etc.), and how it portrays the character's identity/development.  4. Conclusion Paragraph: End your essay with a strong conclusion, reflecting on ... How watching the play enhanced your understanding of the character and play overall Evaluate the actors portrayal. Did you envision the character this way while reading? Why or why not? End by reflecting on the importance of watching not just reading plays. Each body paragraph must include a direct quote from the script in the textbook Write in present tense (He yells, She states,  etc.) Avoid using second person pronouns (you) outside of the conclusion paragraph Be sure to make an argument/analysis, not just describe/summarize the play Write at least 5 paragraphs (intro, 3 body, and conclusion)
