Pаtient Assessment The pаtient is а 58-year-оld male whо has had angina fоr 3 years. His symptoms of substernal tightness occurs with exertion and is relieved promptly by rest (typical of angina). A treadmill stress test showed definate ST segment abnormalities consistent with myocardial ischemia at stage 3 of the test. In addition, the patient has multiple risk factors including hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and a history of smoking. I have started the patient on Cardizem (a calcium channel blocker) as antianginal medication. If the patient has evidence of significant stenois in the future, he should undergo coronary angiography and possible Percutaneous coronary intervention from catherization. 1.
