Here is the submissiоn file fоr the finаl exаm.  The аssignment sheet is cоpied/pasted below: English 101:  Final Exam: Cause and Effect Final Exam Preliminaries:   See the syllabus for the date of your final exam. The final exam is an in-class essay.  You will come to the classroom and type the essay on the computer in a monitored environment.  You may also hand-write the final if you wish.  You will have two hours to complete the exam.  You may write the essay in Microsoft Word, then copy/paste it into Canvas if you wish, or you may write it completely in Canvas. The only website that can be visited during the exam is Canvas.   You must use the computers in the English computer lab. The assignment sheet will be available to you during the final exam. You may bring one notecard with you to class, 4 X 6 inches or smaller.  That notecard can have any information you want on it but cannot contain a “mini-essay” or completed paragraphs.  The notecard will be examined by the instructor before the final begins. **Note the policy from the syllabus.  The Final Exam is optional.  You can accept your cumulative average before the final exam as your final grade and exempt the final (not take it).  If you take the final, the grade will count as 20% of your overall average.   Format/Length:   500 word minimum This essay requires a title but does not require an MLA heading This paper does not require an outside source; if you incorporate any outside evidence, but sure to use quotation marks around direct quotes and to put the website in parentheses. Any quoted material does not count as part of the overall word count.   Assignment:  This assignment asks for you to argue for the two main causes of a particular effect.  Here are the potential topics.  You must choose one from this list.  Three of the topics are personal if you would rather write the essay from that perspective:   The causes for a particular musician or entertainer’s rise to power and prominence (Billie Eilish, Travis Scott, the Kardashians, etc.) The causes for a particular musician or entertainer’s loss of popularity or fall from grace (Johnny Depp, Vanilla Ice, M.C. Hammer, Kevin Spacey, etc.; note:  you cannot choose Michael Jackson—there is a sample posted on him) The causes of an unhealthy diet for high school or college students The causes for marijuana or vape addiction for high school or college students The causes for texting and driving among teensThe causes for bullying in high school The causes for students failing out of college Personal topic:  The causes of you quitting a particular job Personal topic:  The causes of you ending a particular relationship Personal topic:  The causes of you choosing a particular college or university to attend   Guidelines: Your paper will have the following structure: Introduction:  100-200 words Body Paragraph #1: 150-350 words Body Paragraph #2: 150-350 words Conclusion: 100-200 words INTRODUCTION: The introduction will do the following: Introduce your subject matter in a compelling fashion Create a vivid scenario or bring in personal experience, Convince your reader that the “effect” you’re stating is a real, credible.   State your thesis:  the two main causes of your particular effect. BODY PARAGRAPHS (Two of them): Your body paragraphs will have: A topic sentence that clearly states your first or second cause. Specific, concrete examples that help to illustrate your case. The example can be: Hypothetical situations Personal experience Famous examples Relevant facts/statistics/data A quoted source (not required for this essay) Explanation and analysis of these examples and illustrations A summary/wrap up sentence that bring the paragraph to a close Smooth transitions near from one idea to the next, and from idea to example: (also, in addition, for instance, for example, etc.) CONCLUSION: The conclusion of the paper will do the following: Re-state your thesis in other wording Bring the essay to a thoughtful, effective closing:  what is it that you wish for the reader to do or consider, now that your argument has been made?   Note:  No MLA heading is needed for the paper; you submit this via the Canvas Quiz feature, which automatically links to a student’s account.  Just the title of the essay is needed. Bonus:  +                 +1 added for a word count on your essay (you must type this in by hand)                 +1 added for the title                 +3 added to account for in in-class, timed element of the assignment.
