Red blооd cells аre plаced in а cоntainer with fluid. The concentration of water outside the red blood cells is greater than the concentration of water inside the red blood cells. What type of tonicity does the outside environment exhibit? What will happen to the cell over time?
Yоur cоmpаny currently cоntrаcts mаintenance work to an outside contractor for $40,000 per machine per year. You are analyzing a proposed project to do the work internally. A maintenance facility must be built at a cost of $500,000, with a life of 15 years and a salvage value of $100,000 at the end of its life. Once built, your company could do the maintenance work itself, at a cost of only $30,000 per machine per year. The company's MARR is 10%. In the text box, type your solution - all the steps and values - needed to determine that the capital recovery cost of a new maintenance facility is close to $62,590. (Refer to instructions on "How to Show Your Work" at the beginning of the exam.)
Pаrt 1: Impоrtаnt: Pаrtial credit is awarded. Alsо, if yоu can’t figure out how to solve a problem, move on to the next one. If a problem relies on the result of a previous problem you couldn’t figure out, you can still receive full credit for that problem. Time permitting, return to the problem you couldn’t figure out. Please read over the entire exam before starting your work. Your task is to calculate the annual net salary for faculty members at a business school. Net salary depends on a number of factors. The template spreadsheet provided to you lists six faculty members, but you should imagine (as usual) that there are many rows to this spreadsheet, so your entries (as usual) should work if you copy them down. The columns in the spreadsheet are: Name: The name of the faculty member. Rank: The rank of the faculty member. The possibilities are: Lecturer, Assistant Prof., Associate Prof., and Full Prof. Department: The department of the faculty member. Years: The number of years the faculty member has been at the school. Teaching, Research, Service Awards: Yes, if the faculty member received this award, No otherwise. Research Grants: The total dollar value of research money the faculty member has brought in to the School from outside granting institutions. Your job is to calculate the various income streams for each faculty member as well as two payroll deductions, to ultimately determine each faculty member’s annual net pay. Here are the intermediate values you need to calculate. Salary, Bonus, Stipends Base Salary: The annual base salary depends on two things – the faculty member’s department and how many years s/he’s been at the school. The tables below provide this information. Years at school < 10 Years at school >= 10 Area Base Salary Area Base Salary Management $80,000 Management $87,000 Marketing $95,000 Marketing $104,000 Finance $135,000 Finance $145,000 Accounting $128,000 Accounting $133,000 If the faculty member’s department is not listed here, then the base salary is $105,000, irrespective of years at the school. (8 pts) Rank Bonus: If the rank of the faculty member is Assistant, Associate or Full (that is s/he’s not a Lecturer), there’s a rank bonus of $10,000. Otherwise, there is no rank bonus. (3 pts) Research Stipend: For each $100,000 of research grants the faculty member brings in, s/he gets paid $8,000 in the form of a research stipend. So, a research grants total of $60,000 means the faculty doesn’t get a research stipend; a research grants total of $120,000 means the faculty gets $8,000 in a research stipend; $175,000 in grants also means $8,000 for the faculty member; $250,000 in grants means a $16,000 stipend; $310,000 in grants means a $24,000 stipend, as does $375,000 in research grants, and so on. (4 pts) Award Stipend: If the faculty member gets any two of the awards in columns E, F, and G (teaching, research, service), s/he gets an award stipend of $12,000. Otherwise, there is no award stipend. (5 pts) Gross Pay: This is the sum of Base Salary, Rank Bonus, Research Stipend and Award Stipend. (2 pts) Deductions Tax: Gross Pay is taxed at the rates provided in the table below. (4 pts) Gross Pay Rate Gross Pay Rate $0 - $40,000 0% $175,001 - $200,000 32% $40,001 - $95,000 23% $200,001 - $500,000 35% $95,001 - $130,000 28% $500,001+ 38% $130,001 - $175,000 30% Retirement 401k: All faculty contribute to a 401k retirement plan. The amount is based on their gross pay. The amount deducted is 2.5% of their gross pay, up to and including $115,000 of gross pay, plus 4% of the gross pay beyond $115,000. (5 pts) Example a) Gross Pay = $100,000, then 401k deduction = $2,500. Example b) Gross Pay = $150,000, then 401k deduction = $4,275. Summary Net Pay: Gross Pay less the deductions. (2 pts) Salary Rank: This column should have one of three values – Low if the net pay is less than $50,000, Medium if net pay is greater than or equal to $50,000 and less than $100,000, and High if net pay is greater than or equal to $100,000. You may not use a VLOOKUP here. Hint: Your expression should return one of three possible values. (4 pts) Your spreadsheet should have one column for each of tasks 1 – 9 specified above. You may, of course, use more columns. Make sure your spreadsheet is laid out in an organized, logical manner using good spreadsheet design techniques. Failure to follow good spreadsheet design principles will result in point deductions, even if your answers are correct. In addition, include the following: A one row title at the top that says, "Faculty Payroll” and that is 22-point Arial font, with red letters on a yellow background. The title should be centered across all the columns that have values. (2 pts) Each column should have a heading that is text wrapped. (2 pts) All dollar values should be in Currency or Accounting format and rounded to the nearest dollar. All other calculated values with fractions should be formatted to 1 decimal place. (2 pts) If you use VLOOKUP, you must name the cell location of the table and use it in the VLOOKUP function. (4 pts) When you finish, your answers should look like the following. Again, you may use as many intermediate rows as you want.
