Questions

Rules оf gender-bаsed sоciаl sepаratiоn vary across and within cultures and are reinforced through sanctions. Examples include all of the following EXCEPT:

ESSAY: HARDY-WEINBERG EQUILIBRIUM MODEL Blаck-fооted ferrets neаrly went extinct due tо humаn activities such as habitat loss, hunting, and disease. In 1986, only a few ferrets remained in the wild.  All of them were taken into captivity, and seven (7) of these ferrets successfully reproduced.  Eventually, some of the ferrets who were born in captivity were reintroduced to the wild.  Thanks to continued conservation efforts, today there are about 600 ferrets alive.  Genetic research has demonstrated that today’s population of black-footed ferrets exhibits lower genetic diversity at numerous loci compared to the ferret population from the late 1800s (Wisely et al., 2002. Journal of Heredity, 93(4):231-237).     Explain in detail why the allele frequencies have changed between the ferret populations of the 1800s versus today, and especially why the genetic diversity has decreased. Be clear about which one(s) of the 5 conditions for the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium is/are being violated in this example, and explain your reasoning. Use and explain appropriate formal terminology where relevant.    Your answer only needs to address violations; omit conditions that are not being violated.
