As part of Goal 1 of this project, the group is particularly interested in identifying critical variables in this context (outcome variables, explanatory variables, mediators, moderators, etc.) and then identifying (or if necessary, developing) reliable, valid, and fair measurement tools to measure these critical variables. Tools such as the Behavior Incident Report System (BIRS) are being considered along with measures that are more technologically based (e.g., electronic observational systems, experience sampling, etc.).   The initial phase of the project includes activities to ensure that all members of the research project have a shared understanding of the current research on disproportionate discipline practices within preschool programs and the practices and strategies that have been used to measure racial inequities and address these concerns.  They have asked you to prepare a report and presentation that includes: (1) data that indicate racial inequities in the use of exclusionary discipline; (2) factors that are linked to racial inequities in the use of exclusionary discipline; and (3) how programs have collected data to monitor this concern.   Describe the importance of addressing racial inequities related to the use of exclusionary discipline by citing research related to the impact of exclusionary discipline on child outcomes and the factors that have been linked to the use of exclusionary discipline practices.
