On а cоld winter dаy, Adаm went fоr a hike in the mоuntains. While walking on a trail a sudden storm arose. Thick snow accompanied by high winds created blizzard like conditions. Adam was an experienced outdoorsman and knew that, without shelter, he was likely to succumb to hypothermia and die. Fortunately, Adam remembered that his friend Betty owned a cabin in the vicinity. Betty had told him that he could use the cabin should the need arise. In the blizzard conditions, Adam struggled to find Betty’s cabin but soon saw a red-roofed log cabin that looked exactly like Betty’s. As promised, the key was under the mat, and Adam entered to wait out the store. In order to say warm, Adam removed some built-in wooden bookshelves from the wall and used them to build a fire in the fireplace. He also took some pages from books that were on the shelves to keep the fire going. To keep the room warm he locked the bedroom doors and slept in front of the fire until the following morning. As it turns out, the cabin where Adam Stayed was owned by Cathy and not Betty. Cathy had been out that day and was sleeping when Adam came in. She had taken some sleeping pills to sleep through the storm and was not aware Adam had been there. When Cathy woke up and left to exit her room, the door was locked. Cathy had a key and was able to unlock the door. Before leaving the cabin, Adam put a book in his bag that he wanted to borrow from Betty. Adam then took a pen from the desk and began to write a note to Betty thanking her for the use of the cabin and apologizing. He left his phone number and told her to give him a call. When Cathy opened her bedroom door, she noticed her bookshelves were destroyed and books were missing. Cathy then saw Adam leave the cabin. Thinking she was being robbed she charged Adam with an axe. Cathy then stated “I am going to kill you!” Adam had just stepped down from the porch. He tried to avoid the blow to no success. Adam was severely injured, but able to get away.
