Calculate the (i) Maximum steady state concentration (Css_max) (3 pts.) and (ii) Minimum steady state concentration (Css_min) (1 pt.) that result from the standard Metronidazole oral dosage at 500 mg every 6 hours in general adult patient population. 2. Patient C.Y. with intra-abdominal infection was given 400 mg of Metronidazole every 6 hours orally for several days. The resultant trough Metronidazole concentration in C.Y. was 78 mg/L. Assume the apparent volume of distribution of Metronidazole in Patient C.Y. is the same as the average value in the general adult patient population, (i) Calculate the elimination rate constant (k) of Metronidazole in C.Y.. (3 pts.) (ii) Design a practical oral dosing regimen of Metronidazole for Patient C.Y, which will result in the same therapeutic range as that achieved by the 500-mg-every-6-hour Metronidazole regimen in the general adult patient population. (10 pts.) (iii) Is a loading dose needed for Patient C.Y.? If yes, calculate the loading dose. (3 pts.)
