Juаn is а high schооl seniоr аnd is thinking about which college he should go to next year. There’s a college in his hometown, but it hasn’t offered him much financial aid. There’s also a college on the other side of the country that has offered him nearly a full scholarship. But he’s never been away from home for an extended period of time and worries that he’d miss his family and friends too much. Juan's favorite teacher is encouraging him to go to the school across the country because it’s more prestigious, but his parents are urging him to go to the local school even though it’s more expensive. They’re willing to pay more in order to have him stay closer to home. His parents are frustrated that Juan's teacher is getting involved in their family's business. Juan doesn’t really care about how prestigious a university is, but he knows that societal standards are high, and that he might have better luck finding a good job if he has a degree from a top university.
