San Antonio College will host a President's Forum Wed., Nov. 5, 2025, from 3-5 p.m. in the Design Technology Center Auditorium, Building 13-1700. This is the first forum of the fall 2025 semester. College President Dr. Martha Garcia will moderate the forum and will continue the discussion of the college purchasing AR-style rifles for campus safety, a measure that was proposed by Police Chief Kelli Florman last December. The justification for the purpose of the new guns and tasers is for campus safety to be able to effectively respond to mass shooting incidents should they occur on campus, chief Florman explained. Ultimately, the Board of Trustees will vote on the measure to decide the fate of ARs and other weapons (like tasers) for campus police. During the first forum where the topic was broached in April, a number of students lined up to voice their opposition for the move. The forum went over the allotted two hours as a result of student's pressuring the president to stay to address concerns. A second spring forum yielded similar results.
