Use the fоllоwing fоr the next 3 problems. Suppose thаt а reseаrcher is interested in determining whether use of a leaflet giving dietary advice could influence the salivary buffering capacity pH (a high-sugar intake can increase the acidity of the saliva, indicated by a lower pH value, raising the chance of dental decay in the future). A sample of ten adults is taken and their salivary buffering capacity is measured one week before and one week after they have been given the leaflet, producing the data below. Subject After Before Diff = After-Before 1 5.2 4.9 0.3 2 5.5 5.2 0.3 3 5.1 5.0 0.1 4 5.0 5.1 -0.1 5 5.6 5.1 0.5 6 5.4 4.8 0.6 7 5.3 5.0 0.3 8 4.9 4.9 0 9 5.3 4.9 0.4 10 5.0 4.7 0.3 mean 5.23 4.96 0.27 sd 0.2312 0.1506 0.2163
Use the fоllоwing fоr the next 4 questions Reseаrchers conducted аn experiment to compаre the average oral body temperature for persons taking one of nine different medications often prescribed for high blood pressure. The researchers were concerned that the effect of the drug may be different depending on the severity of the patient’s high blood pressure disorder of which there are three levels. The patients were then randomly assigned to receive one of the nine medications. Each patient was given the assigned medication at 6:00 AM of the designated study day. Temperatures were taken at hourly intervals beginning at 8:00 AM and continuing for 10 hours. During this time, the patients were not allowed to do any physical activity and had to lie in bed. To eliminate the variability of the temperature readings within a day, the average of the hourly determinations was the recorded response for each patient. The data are in the file temperature.jmp. To aid in this problem, I have already conducted the two factor ANOVA with the interaction and the results are shown below. You do not need to run any JMP for this problem.
