PUBLIC Questiоn 2: Cоmpаre аnd Cоntrаst – Macromolecules  Give an in-depth explanation written in paragraph form for the following questions. Each answer should be at least 3-5 sentences in length and answer all parts of the question completely. Several macromolecules are necessary for life as we know it (proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids). It is important to not only understand the basic elemental composition of these macromolecules but also the complex three dimensional structures they adopt to carry out their functions.  2A. Compare and contrast the atomic components needed to build proteins and nucleic acids. A complete answer will identify the ELEMENTS present in both these macromolecules AND which elements (if any) are ONLY present in proteins OR nucleic acids. PUBLIC Questiоn 1: Anаlyzing Cоncepts аnd Predicting Outcоmes – Biology Give аn in-depth explanation written in paragraph form for the following questions. Each answer should be at least 3-5 sentences in length and answer all parts of the question completely. A thousand years in the future, astronauts from Earth have landed on a planet in a neighboring solar system to investigate recently detected signs of life.  The atmosphere on Planet 9 is very similar to earth - 70% nitrogen, 26% oxygen, and less than 4% carbon dioxide.  The astronaut’s ship landed on the edge of a shallow body of water. The water contains much higher levels of sulfur and ammonia than would usually be present in water from Earth. Initial observations fail to detect large, multicellular organisms, but samples of the water and soil showed objects visible by microscope.  1C. Interpret data. The astronauts attempt to grow the organisms under several different conditions. Consider the curves below. Which curve shows optimal conditions for slowest growth? Which curve likely shows growth when sulfur is high? (3pts) Copyright 2022 by Edmonds College Department of Biology. All rights reserved. Online sharing or distribution is prohibited. Predict what would happen if the astronauts bring these samples back to Earth. Assume you confirm that these organisms are alive. Will they survive on Earth? Explain your prediction. Application. You are given a solution with the following properties:  low pH, hydrophilic. Your lab is interested in what happens when a new protein is added to this solution. This protein is a dimer held together by several hydrophobic bonds and is usually located in the cell membrane. Predict what will happen to this protein when it is added to this solution. Will it dissolve into the solution? Will it precipitate (clump together)? What will happen to its structure?  BE SPECIFIC! (5 pts) Copyright 2022 by Edmonds College Department of Biology.
