Whаt is the clоsest thing tо а thesis stаtement in this descriptive intrоduction?   "It is often the first piece that catches the eye of a visitor walking through the doorway of El Anatsui's exhibit, "When I Last Wrote to You about Africa," featured at the Denver Art Museum. The structure, created in 1996, is titled Akua's Surviving Children and sits on an 8-inch platform, approximately 12 feet wide and 8 feet deep. The platform itself is a flat grey color and appears to have been provided by the Denver Art Museum, rather than being an integral part of the artwork. There are twenty seven figures. Each is unique, with heights varying between approximately 2 feet and 5 feet. Each figure has a "body" that is described by the artist as a piece of driftwood; however, these bodies appear to have been shaped by man at one time - perhaps they are the broken remnants of piers, of docks, or maybe shards left from a shoreline house or a boat. What is clear is that each piece has had a difficult life. Each of the twenty-seven bodies has its own mélange of scars, splits, gouges, and worm-eaten holes, and each is attached to the platform with a simple pair of metal brackets..."
