Sergeаnt Cаl is а pоlice оfficer in the narcоtics unit of the Moss Aisley Sheriff’s Office. One morning he received a call asking him to visit the hospital and speak with Oola, a dancer who worked for the notorious crime lord Jabban. When he arrived, Oola explained that she had detailed information about Jabban’s illegal business including the locations of his drug sale houses, his labs where he made “blue milk”, a highly addictive narcotic currently plaguing Moss Aisley, and the names of his contacts and underlings. She had obtained all of this information because Jabban required her to attend and perform at all of his important meetings, so she overheard everything they talked about. Sergeant Cal was skeptical and asked why she would disclose all of this information and Oola explained that the night before, Jabban had mistreated her and pushed her down a garbage chute where she landed in a basement and was bitten by one of his fighting dogs who was kept down there. While Oola was treated at the hospital, Sergeant Cal obtained a search warrant which was granted after the magistrate carefully reviewed the affidavit which contained all of the information provided by Oola. The narcotics unit then conducted a coordinated raid on Jabban’s office and other properties and seized vast quantities of blue milk and paraphernalia consistent with drug creation and trafficking. Sergeant Cal accompanied the officers on the raid to Jabban’s primary office. While searching the office, Cal ordered all of the employees to stand together in the parking lot and to not leave until the search was done. As the employees filed out, he noticed that Bob Fet, one of Jabban’s lieutenants, had a bulge under his jacket which Sergeant Cal immediately associated with a concealed firearm. Cal confronted Bob who stated that he had a concealed weapon license. Bob handed both the license and the firearm to Cal. Cal said that he was going to pat Bob down for officer safety anyway. Bob refused consent to any further search. Cal patted Bob down and felt another bulge in his pocket about the size of a cellphone. Sergeant Cal reached inside the pocket and withdrew a flip phone. He then physically inspected the device and realized that it was not really a phone, but actually a blue milk dispenser disguised as a phone. Sergeant Cal seized the fake phone and placed Bob under arrest. Jabban was arrested and charged with a slew of drug crimes and Bob was arrested and charged with possession of drugs and possession of a firearm while possessing drugs. The next day, Sergeant Cal learned that Oola had died from a blue milk overdose and that she had apparently been under the influence of the drug during his interview with her. Jabban filed a motion to suppress challenging the warrant, and Bob has similarly filed challenging the encounter with Sergeant Cal. Discuss what arguments they are likely to make in their respective motions and whether those arguments are likely to succeed.
