Cаse study A Bаckgrоund: A 58-yeаr-оld man gradually develоped difficulty with handwriting and typing, saying that his fingers were stiff and slow. In addition, his gait became unsteady, and he had several falls. He was treated with levodopa plus carbidopa and saw some improvement of symptoms, but he said sometimes he noticed random twitches throughout his body for a couple of hours right after he took his medication. When examined 5 years after symptom onset, he had a normal mental status, slow eye movements, blunted affect, dysarthric speech, prominent bilateral bradykinesia and rigidity, especially of the axial and neck muscles, mild tremor, and a slow, shuffling gait. There was no evidence of autonomic dysfunction, ataxia, or dementia.
