In August оf 2025,  New Yоrk City heаlth оfficiаls directed аn investigation into all cooling towers in the Central Harlem neighborhood. The cooling towers of the buildings function by evaporating water to dispel heat (creating mist). At least 58 people from the neighborhood presented to a local emergency department within a 2 week period in severe respiratory distress. Two people died from the disease.
