A 50 YO femаle wаs seen in her PCP's оffice cоmplаining оf warmth and redness of her left anterior lower leg. Last weekend, she was doing yard work and sustained a small puncture wound to the area. She did n ot think she had a foreign body in the wound. Over the next couple of days, the area became red and began to show swelling. Upon exam, the physician found a tiny puncture wound with obvious celulitis tracking down her leg from below the knee to almost the ankle. The patient prescribed a short-term course of antibiotics with a f/u visit in 5 days. The diagnosis written on the encounter form was cellulitis of the lower leg from puncture wound.
