The night prior, he had a fever but reports no chills, nausea, or vomiting. He reports no known preceding mechanical trauma or injury to his leg. Physical examination reveals a HR of 75 beats/minute, respiratory rate of 18 breaths/ minute, blood pressure of 100/60 mm Hg, and temperature of 38°C. On skin examination there is a 10 cm x 5 cm area of erythema and warmth, mild tenderness with poor demarcation on the lateral aspect of the left leg.
