Wilber turned the space heater on and began working on his car. After a short time, Wilber smelled smoke and looked up to see that a fire had started near the space heater. Wilber retrieved a fire extinguisher and was able to put out the fire. However, while fighting the fire, Wilber’s arms and hands were burned and part of Wilber’s garage was damaged. The investigation later revealed that one of the wires comprising the heating element had broken when heated. When the red-hot wire broke, it was ejected from the space heater, causing the fire. The investigation also revealed that the wire had broken because it had not been properly soldered at the time the space heater was made. Discuss.
