One оf the chаrаcteristics оf the federаl cоurt system is that it is essentially passive. That is to say, the power of the federal courts is not self-starting, but rather must be invoked by a “properly qualified litigant.” In addition to ensuring that a case is filed in a court that possesses all four of the major types of jurisdiction, a “properly qualified litigant” in federal court must meet four additional requirements under Article III of the U.S. Constitution and the judicially-created doctrines designed to enforce its “case” or controversy” requirements. What are these four requirements? In addition to identifying them, be sure (a) to define what those terms mean, and (b) to illustrate each of your major points with an example. To be clear, you do not need to discuss jurisdiction in your answer to this question; rather, limit your response to the four primary doctrines that help to satisfy Article III's “case” or “controversy” requirements.
