Questions

Yоur cоmpаny rаn аn experiment randоmly selecting a subset of their technical support call-center workers and giving them the option to work from home. Of the workers given the option to work from home, 50% decided to take the option and the other 50% declined and kept working from the office. The rest of the workers were not given the option and had to work from the office as usual. The company tracked the average number of daily calls handled by the workers. After 6 months, here were the results: Workers without the option to work from home: Averaged 142 calls per day Workers with the option to work from home: Averaged 151 calls per day The 50% who chose to work from home: Averaged 153 calls per day The 50% who chose to remain at the office: Averaged 149 calls per day Your colleague says: “Working from home increases average calls per day by 4 (153 vs. 149).”   A. Please give your own analysis of the results and how you would interpret the effect they have on average calls per day. Do you agree with your colleagues’ interpretation? Make sure to put a box around any numerical results you give, show your work, and give a brief explanation.   B. Please briefly discuss whether average calls per day is likely to be a good Overall Evaluation Criteria for the organization.   C. In Module 3 we discussed some advanced issues and challenges for experiments. Other than the “non-compliance (imperfect take-up)” described above, if you had to choose one other idea from Module 3 that could be important for the company to consider when making decisions based on this experiment, what would you focus on? Please explain.
