As shоwn in the tаble аbоve, unintentiоnаl injuries are the leading cause of death as far as years of potential life lost before age 65 (YPLL–65), and yet the cause-specific crude mortality from unintentional injuries is much lower than that from malignant neoplasms or from diseases of the heart.  The reason(s) for this is(are):  I. YPLL-65 was used when YPLL-75 would have been more appropriate  II. Column I of this table includes persons dying after age 65, while Column II does not  III. Persons dying from unintentional injuries are much younger on the average than persons dying from both malignant neoplasms and heart disease.
