Question: The region of Earth known as the tropics is the latitudinal zone that lies between the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere and the Tropic of Capricorn in the Southern Hemisphere. Given where it is situated on the globe, the tropic zone receives greater total solar radiation than other parts of the globe. Since solar radiation influences the level of biodiversity in a region, explain at least two reasons why the Northern region of Africa has such low biodiversity (Figure A), despite occurring in Earth’s tropic zone.
